Memorable GT Client Bob Geary Montreal Alouettes GM

Bob Geary was quite a guy. Not very tall but barrel chested and as tough as nails.  Dad first met Bob at Jaguar Eastern Canada in the early 1960s. Dad started as a tech and went on to become the service manager while Bob was detailing the new car inventory. Bob went on to play professional football in the Canadian Football League eventually becoming the general manager of the Montreal Alouettes. Keep in mind that in those days the players did not make the kind of money they make today. In fact when first starting out in team management Bob admitted he pitched in wherever he could, even cleaning the bathrooms in the old football stadium!
There was a story that another client of ours , a fellow named Alex Kowaluck (also owned a Jaguar E-type) happened to be at the brunt of Bob`s Irish temper one time when Bob was late for a meeting and Alex reportedly said something to the effect of get the meeting going, who the H___L is Bob Geary just as Bob turned the corner. Bob walked up to him & said I`m Bob Geary and proceeded to punch Alex in the face!  Alex did not pursue the matter, he could have easily called the police or sued but that was a different time when things were settled between men and then forgotten.
The first car I remember that Bob brought for service was a dark red 1967 Jaguar Etype convertible with wire wheels. The car always looked immaculate, the tires always shiny black, I would wash the car after servicing and he was always very generous with a tip. Bob then bought a Jenson interceptor, just a beast of a car! It was British made with a Chrysler 440 cubic inch with a big Holley carb. The car was originally a grey color and Bob had it painted jet black, it looked, sounded, ran like a bat out of hell!
Everytime Bob would come over to pay the bill he would make a scene! He would start cussing at how high the bill was, how when he first met Dad, Dad just had a little suitcase of belongings and now look at how much he was charging for servicing the car, how he was getting overcharged, followed by plenty of F bombs! In fact on one occasion David Horlington, a very proper Englishman who owned a Triumph Stag (awesome car) happened to be heading to the office during one of Bob`s tirades, and upon hearing Bob yelling uttered "Good Lord" and turned to wait outside.
After Bob`s tirade, Bob would ask Dad how many free tickets he wanted for the upcoming game! Bob referred many of the players to my Dad for their auto repairs, I recall Peter Della Riva, Steven Ferughelli, Junior Ah-You, Jimmy Jones,Johnny Rogers, and others whose names I don`t remember. We even had the team owner Mr. Sam Berger and his sons on our client list ! All thanks to Bob Geary.
I happened to google Bob Geary  and was saddened to learn he passed away from a heart attack while playing golf .
I was of course just a kid, 40 odd years have passed but those are days I will always remember. Great Stuff! God Bless you Bob Geary!!! RIP
